Learn About High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is a common health condition that affects many people. On this page, you will find helpful information about what it is, why it matters, and how you can take steps to manage it and protect your health.

Below, you will find articles, downloadable resources, videos, and podcasts to help you learn more about high blood pressure and take steps to improve your health.

Definition of Hypertension:

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, happens when the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries is too high for too long. Over time, this extra pressure can damage your heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and other parts of your body. If it is not treated or controlled, it can lead to serious problems such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure, kidney disease, and vision loss.

Common Symptoms of High Blood Pressure:

High blood pressure often has no clear symptoms, which is why it is sometimes called the “silent” condition. Some people may experience headaches, shortness of breath, nosebleeds, chest pain, dizziness, or changes in vision, but many people feel normal even when their blood pressure is high.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you have any symptoms or concerns about your health, speak with your healthcare provider. Only a medical professional can properly diagnose and treat health conditions.
